On January 14-16, 2018, more than 35,000 retailers and industry partners gathered in New York City for NRF 2018: Retail’s Big Show. In many ways, 2017 was the year of the “retail apocalypse” storyline, with many press reports focusing on store closings and other “facts” foretelling the demise of retail. However, what emerged from NRF 2018 was a very different story.
Coming off the best holiday shopping season since 2010, most industry leaders were upbeat about the future of retail. Rather than facing an inevitable apocalypse, the retail industry is undergoing a fundamental (even if somewhat turbulent) transformation that is largely driven by changing customer expectations.
Digital technologies – in a variety of forms – are playing a vital role in shaping the retail enterprise of the future. Technology innovations have led today’s consumers to expect the ability to shop and buy anywhere, anytime, and anyhow, as well as expect a seamless experience regardless of where, when, or how they shop and buy.
Aprimo joined Microsoft in its booth at NRF 2018 to showcase technology solutions that enable and support intelligent retail. In a recent blog post, Toni Townes-Whitley, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector and Industry, captured the essence of intelligent retail: “Microsoft understands that data-driven insights are key to a successful digital transformation of intelligent retailers. Leveraging data in smart and strategic ways helps retailers offer differentiated and personalized shopping experiences – and much more.”
During NRF 2018, we demonstrated how the world’s largest home improvement retailer is using Aprimo’s Digital Asset Management solution, hosted on Microsoft Azure’s cloud platform, to deliver exceptional shopping experiences across multiple channels, while simultaneously streamlining content operations.
Like many retailers, this organization was facing an ever-increasing demand for digital content, and it had become challenging to manage the growing volume of content with multiple, unintegrated technology systems. Aprimo DAM has enabled this retailer to establish a centralized repository for digital marketing content, providing robust capabilities for search, image transformation, and version control.
We also demonstrated how Aprimo’s cloud-based digital asset management and marketing operations solutions can help retailers improve both the effectiveness and the efficiency of their marketing efforts by enabling them to:
- Increase customer engagement, brand loyalty, and e-commerce agility by delivering the right content to the right touchpoint at the right time
- Leverage the full range of digital and offline marketing channels
- Understand which content assets are performing best
- Launch marketing programs and products faster by shortening creative review and approval cycles
- Reduce agency fees
We had a great time at NRF 2018 speaking with retail industry leaders about marketing trends, best practices, and challenges, and we are excited to announce that we will be partnering again with Microsoft at EuroCIS 2018, one of Europe’s largest retail conferences. EuroCIS will take place in Dusseldorf from 27 February through 1 March, and you can schedule a meeting with us at the conference here.
